12 (+3) Weeks

Lets hope this isn’t the beginning of me forgetting weekly updates LOL I was waiting until after my OB appointment Monday morning to do it, but then I obviously spaced it (it’s not too early to use the pregnancy brain card is it?).

Weekly Update:

How far along: 12+3

How big is baby: about 2.5 inches, the size of a plum or a Roborovski hamster

Symptoms: soooo tired all.the.time. Nausea has been kind enough to ramp up this week. I spent pretty much all day Sunday in bed and have been nauseous most of everyday since then. I really hope this isn’t a new trend

Movement: I thought it would be much later that I would add this section, but much to my surprise I have been able to feel her moving around in there already!! It’s not consistent, but it’s at least a time or two every day.

Sleep: Not too bad. I wake up a lot to pee and start sleeping more restlessly from about 4am on

Miss anything? Not being nauseous and being able to plan dinner which I can’t seem to do right now b/c I don’t know what, if anything, will sound good at that time

Food cravings? Tacos LOL

Anything making you queasy or sick? everything LOL mostly just eating too much at one time

Best moment of the week? being able to spend Sunday in bed while the Hubs wrangled the munchkins

Next appointment: We have an ultrasound tomorrow morning 🙂

I had my first appointment with my actual OB on Monday morning. I have to say that I love her. She’s so easy going and laid back. She thanked me a bunch of times for only transferring one embryo as she has seen a lot of surros with twins have complications (in her experience more complications than twins carried by their biological mother). She also said that she wanted another ultrasound to check on the 3 sub chorionic hemmorages that they saw at the last ultrasound. (If you’re not familiar with that term it’s basically a pocket of blood that forms in the uterus. They’re are pretty common in IVF pregnancies. They generally don’t cause any problems, but can cause light to heavy bleeding which can be scary. Luckily I haven’t had any bleeding at all). After some back and forth that ultrasound is being done tomorrow morning 😁

11 weeks

After I copied and pasted this I realized I never actually finished changing my answers last week, oops!

Weekly Update:

How far along: 11 weeks

How big is baby: 1.5-2 inches, the size of a fig, a lime, or a Bee Hummingbird depending on what app you go by

IVF meds: I finally got the okay to stop progesterone injections woohoo! I took my last one last Monday and my backside is definitely grateful. Tonight is my last dose of 1mg of estrodiol so this section of the update will be saying goodbye after today 😁

Symptoms: fatigue, nausea off and on although it definitely seems to be getting better.

Sleep: I had another cold last week that made for a few very sleepless nights. It’s better now and I added 1 Tylenol PM to my bedtime meds, initially because my throat hurt so bad, but it has made me sleep soooo much better that I’ve continued it.

Miss anything? Not being constantly aware of my stomach and GI tract. It seems there’s always something going on in there and it always holds part of my attention

Food cravings? Cravings have mostly gone away this week. I can’t think of anything in particular I just had to have, but I have been wanting actual meals in the evenings as opposed to just snacking for dinner

Anything making you queasy or sick? Carbs/sugar, too many raw veggies. I mostly need to eat just protein if I don’t want an upset stomach.

Best moment of the week? The ultrasound on 2/12 and then hearing her heartbeat on the Doppler a friend sent me.

Next appointment: Wednesday I have first appointment at my OB office, but it’s just with the nurse. First real OB appointment is on 2/26

10 Weeks 1 Day

I have been so nervous about this day, way more so than I was with the ultrasounds for my own kids. There’s so much invested here. You’ve got three people who want this so much, not to mention the family and friends who surround all of us and are praying and sending good vibes. I don’t know why I put so much on this particular ultrasound. At the one three weeks ago we saw a heartbeat which was great, but it was still just a blob. Since the imaging center no longer listens to the heartbeat, they just measure it, it seemed kind of surreal. So without further ado here’s how it went….

It went great LOL She’s perfect, measuring on track with a heartbeat of 171 (still didn’t get to actually hear it though). I could see her little heart beating and she was wiggling around. I didn’t see the heartbeat at first, but she was wiggling so I knew she was okay. The tech had to show me on the screen where the heart was. It was so tiny that I totally missed it. Laying there watching this little girl dance around got me a little verklempt. I’m just so excited for her dads. She has no way of knowing it, but she is already so loved.

It’s a different feeling watching an ultrasound of a baby in my uterus that I have no maternal feeling towards. It’s not bad or anything, just different. I feel more like an aunt or something. Obviously I care about her and want the best for her, but I’m not her mother and I have no desire to be. She has two amazing dads that are going to love and adore her. People tend to say things like “I could never give up my baby” or “I don’t know how you can give up your baby” when surrogacy is mentioned. The thing is surrogates go into this knowing these are not our babies. We’re not giving them up, we’re giving them back to families who want them so badly and have waited so long. One of the things most surrogates look forward to the most is the moment the IPs (intended parents) see their baby (babies) for the first time. We’ve all been through it with our own kids and helping someone else experience that moment is an amazing thing. Obviously I haven’t made it that far yet, but thoughts of what it might be like are part of the reason I decided to do this.

Now it’s time for…

Weekly Update:

How far along: 10 weeks 1 day

How big is baby: about an inch or the size of an Eastern Tailed-Blue Butterfly (one of the apps I have let’s you choose what you want the size compared to, I chose animals LOL)

IVF meds: Estradiol 2mg 3x a day. 1cc of PIO each evening.

Symptoms: fatigue, nausea has been manageable. It comes and goes. I had a really rough patch Thursday afternoon and this morning, but thankfully they were short lived.

Sleep: it’s been okay. I think the unisom I take at night to help with the nausea makes me sleep crappy.

Miss anything? Not being nauseous and having food actually sound good

Food cravings? watermelon, cantaloupe, apples w/ caramel, carrots and ranch, cucumbers. Last night I had the first real dinner I’ve eaten in weeks. It was steak, pasta salad, and green salad. It was delicious, but I ate too much and got super bloated.

Anything making you queasy or sick? not drinking enough water. This seems to make the difference in how my day goes. Not enough water the day before and I’m super nauseous all day.

Best moment of the week? Having was weather this weekend and getting to be outside to enjoy it

Next appointment: ultrasound on 2/12, it seems like it’s been so long! I’m definitely ready to make sure everything looks good in there.
