8 Weeks

Weekly Update:

How far along: 8 weeks 1 day (I’m a day late this week, oops!)

How big is baby: about 2/3 of an inch, as big as a Denise’s Pygmy Seahorse 😂

IVF meds: Estradiol 2mg 3x a day. 1cc of PIO each evening.

Symptoms: fatigue, nausea has been manageable. It comes and goes. A cold has been going around our house and the amount of coughing I’ve been doing makes me almost throw up.

Sleep: it’s been okay. The previously mentioned cold has hit my poor husband hard and between his tossing, turning, and snoring sleep is an elusive beast around here

Miss anything? Not being nauseous and having food actually sound good

Food cravings? not really, nothing sounds good at this point. Any cravings I do have usually come and go so quick I don’t have time to act on them

Anything making you queasy or sick? not drinking enough water. This seems to make the difference in how my day goes. Not enough water the day before and I’m super nauseous all day

Best moment of the week? acupuncture on Saturday, so relaxing!

Next appointment: ultrasound on 2/12 (seems so far away!)

We Have a Heartbeat!

Yesterday morning I had my second OB ultrasound and it showed baby girl’s heart in there beating away!!

I emailed B & R from the parking lot afterwards because I didn’t want them to have to wait any longer than necessary. I was a little bummed that this imaging center doesn’t actually listen to the heartbeat until after the first trimester. They measure it without hearing it so as to “disturb” the baby as little as possible since all her vital organs are developing. I appreciate the sentiment, but I so wanted to be able to send a video with their daughter’s heartbeat to B & R. In that sense it was almost anticlimactic because it’s hard to believe there was a good strong heartbeat without hearing it.

We’re all still going forward with cautiously optimistic attitudes knowing anything can happen, but as of yesterday morning things looked good.

She was measuring 2-3 days behind, but that’s considered normal for this stage. This was the first abdominal ultrasound I’ve had with this pregnancy and while I appreciate not needing a vaginal one, it definitely gives much clearer images.

7 Weeks

Weekly Update:

How far along: 7 weeks

How big is baby: 1/4in, about the size of a blueberry or a brookesia micra chameleon 😂

IVF meds: Estradiol 2mg 3x a day. 1cc of PIO each evening.

Symptoms: fatigue, my nausea had been getting better, but it came on strong again this morning. I’m definitely super bloated after every time I eat, it’s so uncomfortable.

Sleep: it’s been okay. I had a few nights last week where it was terrible, but I crashed on Friday night and slept until 10:30 the next morning.

Miss anything? Not being nauseous and having food actually sound good

Food cravings? not really, nothing sounds good at this point.

Anything making you queasy or sick? Basically everything LOL eating, not eating, eating the wrong thing

Best moment of the week? the few days at the end of the week were I felt pretty good and could eat real food before 3:30pm

Next appointment: Heartbeat confirmation in the am 😍

6 Weeks

Weekly Update:

How far along: 6 weeks

How big is baby: sweet pea or pomegranate seed (why do we compare embryos/fetuses/babies to food? 🤔

IVF meds: Estradiol 2mg 3x a day. 1cc of PIO each evening. My backside (where the PIO is injected) is numb now. That’s a weird feeling to have two big areas that are just numb. They itch too which is a bit obnoxious

Symptoms: fatigue, definitely more nausea, gassy

Sleep: it’s been good. I already started sleeping with a pillow to put my leg and bloated belly on

Miss anything? Not being nauseous and enjoying food

Food cravings? Yesterday afternoon needed cake, it didn’t matter what kind, I just needed some. My husband ran to the store and it was so good.

Anything making you queasy or sick? Lots of stuff, eating the wrong thing even if it sounded good. I spent an hour curled up on the bathroom floor this morning after breakfast

Best moment of the week? Seeing the appropriate sized gestational sac and yolk sac on the ultrasound. That let me know that so far things are progressing as they should and the embryo implanted in the correct place

Next appointment: Heartbeat confirmation on 1/22

5 weeks

I had my blood draw let Friday and the numbers came back great! Here’s a breakdown of all my beta numbers: (They look for the number to double every 48-72 hours)

17 @ 5dpt

279 @ 11dpt

933 @ 14dpt

The numbers have been increasing like they should so we’re still a go for the ultrasound on Wednesday. My questionnaire today is going to be a lot like my first one since I just did it a few days ago, but I want to get into doing them when a new week starts.

Weekly Update:

How far along: 5 weeks

How big is baby: orange seed

IVF meds: Estradiol 2mg 3x a day. I got to cut my progesterone injection half (yay!!) so I do 1cc of PIO each evening. I have a nice knot on my right injection site so I’ve been sitting on a heating pad as often as I can to get it to disperse. I’m also taking a prenatal every night and a vitamin B complex twice a day.

Symptoms: I hit a wall about 2pm and struggle to keep my eyes open. I’ve taken to laying down when they kids have quiet time instead of trying to get a chore or two done. I’m still only able to eat small meals. My stomach definitely lets me know if I over did it. I’m hoping to get one more week without morning sickness, but who knows.

Sleep: yup! I had a wonderful nap on Friday when my husband took the kids to the store for an hour and a half

Miss anything? Being able to eat a normal size meal, not needing to lay down in the afternoon

Food cravings? Still popcorn. Today I had to have mozzarella sticks and a lemonade for lunch

Anything making you queasy or sick? Just eating too much

Best moment of the week? Getting a good 3rd beta number

Next appointment: first US on Wednesday!

It’s Official!

I’m officially pregnant! Which means my wonderful IFs are expecting!! I cannot tell you how excited I am for them. I’m being cautiously optimistic right now as I still have a blood test tomorrow to make sure my hormone levels are rising appropriately. Then I have an ultrasound next Wednesday. It will be too early to see a heartbeat, but we’ll be able to make sure that there’s a gestational sac that’s measuring the right size. Heartbeat confirmation should be on 1/22. At that point I’ll be 7 weeks and we should be able to see a heartbeat at that point. There’s still a long ways to go for a healthy baby for IFs, but this is a wonderful first step.

Typically I’m one to not want to “jinx” anything by say, taking bump pics too early or talking about when the baby gets here instead of “if we make it that far”. This time however, I’m choosing to be positive. I’m sending positive vibes out for this pregnancy and thinking positively about upcoming appointments. Now, that doesn’t mean I’m not aware that this could possibly not work out. I know that at any time an appointment could have a negative outcome, but I’m just sending good vibes out there. You know what they say, putting positivity our in the universe bring positivity back to you (or something like that).

So in the spirit of positivity I’m going to start bump pics on Sunday (at 5 weeks) and I’m going to start filling out a weekly questionnaire about this pregnancy. Some of these questions don’t really apply this early in the game, but I’ll leave them there for later.

Weekly Update”

How far along? 4 weeks 4 days

How big is baby: Size of a poppyseed

IVF Meds: still on Estradiol 2mg 3x a day and 2ccs of PIO (progesterone in oil). The PIO injections are going good, my backside is sore, but manageable. I’m making sure to use my heating pad as much as possible after the injection to avoid knots. It seems to be getting harder for the hubs to find a not sore area to inject. It’s not awful, but I’m definitely hoping everything goes smoothly so I can stop meds at about 10 weeks

Stretch marks? Not there yet

Belly button In/Out? Shouldn’t be out until 3rd tri

Wedding ring Off/On? I don’t wear it that much anyway, but I still get it off and on

Symptoms? fatigue, not able to eat as much at one sitting without getting nauseous, I swear I’m getting round ligament pain already which isn’t awesome

Sleep? Yes please!

Miss anything? soft cheese

Movement? not there yet

Food cravings? popcorn! I could eat it for every meal. Ice water, this has happened with both my previous pregnancies. Milk, this was one of the very first before I even got a positive test. I craved ice cold milk during my previous pregnancies as well. I took a test the next day and it was positive.

Anything making you queasy or sick? If I eat too big a portion

Labor signs Save for later

Best moment this week: Getting the email saying I’m officially pregnant!

Next Appointment: blood draw tomorrow morning then first US on 1/10

One more test

I had told myself I was done talking home pregnancy tests, but then I threw some more in the cart when we were grocery shopping tonight. My 8dpt (days past transfer) test wasn’t any darker than the 7dpt test so that had me a little nervous even though I know there can be a lot of different reasons for that. So when I took a test tonight and the test line turned out darker than the control line I was super happy.

Tomorrow morning I have my confirmation blood test, but the fertility clinic doesn’t usually send me the results until around 4pm. I’m feeling pretty good about what the results will be because of the way my home tests look. I think if it’s a good number we’ll be able to schedule a heartbeat confirmation ultrasound towards the end of this month. I’m so happy for R & B! I so hope this is it for them and this time next year they’ll be holding this little girl in their arms.
